Master Gardener Program

The Florida Master Gardener Program began in 1979. It is part of the Extension Service of the University of Florida (UF) Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) in cooperation with the USDA and county governments. Florida Master Gardeners receive professional training in exchange for volunteering and sharing IFAS based information about Florida gardening.

The Master Gardener Program provides gardeners with intensive education in home horticultural principles. Participants who complete the program are certified as Master Gardeners by the Florida Cooperative Extension Service. Working with the Extension Agent, Master Gardeners provide volunteer leadership and service to their community in gardening activities. Master Gardeners work with the Extension program and have the opportunity to participate in organized volunteer activities.
